The Circus of Gredos:

The most classic of the marches that can be carried out within the limits of the Gredos Regional Park is the one that, from the platform located at the end of the track that begins in Hoyos del Espino, allows you to reach the renowned Circo de Gredos. After taking a wide paved path with large granite slabs, which ascends towards the Prado de las Pozas, and after leaving the Reguero Llano refuge behind, you have to cross the river de las Pozas by a cement bridge, which plummets in several waterfalls through an ancient glacial valley.

The altitude, above 2,000 meters, and the predominance of rocky soils have reduced the surrounding vegetation to a dense and squat broom. Among these bushes only the rare hedgehog and creeping juniper grow.

After a steep climb, you will reach Los Barrerones, a place from which you can see the circus and the Gredos lagoon. To reach them you have to overcome a pair of rocky slopes formed by berrocales, helmets and large balls, characteristic forms of granite relief.

The only green cover in the area is made up of silicic lichens. It is also in these ridges of fantastic and capricious forms where the queen species of the Gredos fauna lives: the Hispanic goat.
The path ends at the so-called Trocha Real, which, in a few minutes, leads to the very foot of the great glacial lagoon. Its cold and transparent waters reflect the high peaks that, next to the Almanzor peak, frame the Gredos cirque: Risco de la Ventana, Los Tres Hermanitos, Cuchillar de las Navajas and El Sagrao. Once you have admired this privileged alpine corner, you have to return the same way.

This natural space is the holder of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism granted by the EUROPARC Federation (which groups together the protected natural areas of Europe), for the excellent initiatives that are developed to revitalize the rural environment and for its efficient management and control systems visits, among other aspects.
